An adventure moving inward...

Friends,

I write to you all today to introduce my newest creation, Old Soul Yoga. A one woman operation with the hope of creating space for inner contemplation, and maybe even a little peace, within the confines of this strange world that we live in. I have spent most of my years on this earth living in a state of existential wonder. On the outside, I live in a way that is not unlike many middle aged suburban women. I have a professional career as a dentist and spend much of my time working, spending time with family and friends, have a few hobbies (like improv comedy...come see me here!), and spending a large chunk of time running around doing nonsense life maintenance things that make me feel "busy" (a whole topic for later). On the inside, I am constantly trying to figure out how any of these things fit into the greater context of life and what the heck we are doing here on this planet.

Many years ago, I started a deep dive into figuring out my own belief systems and how to best navigate this thing called life. It felt to me that we spend so much of our time and energy worrying about senseless things, and not focusing nearly enough time on the really important stuff. I talk to patient after patient each day and fixing their teeth is often the easy part. Weeding though the stress, anxiety, and anger, is often the real challenge. Anxiety is rampant and I believe it to be the underlying cause of nearly every issue we have, small and large. Our anxiety and fear have led us to create a society where we often work ourselves to exhaustion, spending our days just getting "through" instead of truly experiencing much. It has also led us to accept alarming economic disparities, violence, racism, and a feeling of general disgruntlement all around us everyday.

Yet, with problems so big, sometimes it easy to think, there is nothing to be done, lets just live our lives. Not all of us will be famous change makers. But I think we all have a responsibility to at the very least, work on our own inner healing. So that whatever it is we do in our day to day to life, we bring our best self, we spread just a little goodness, and we reduce a little bit of nonsense.

I have been practicing Yoga for years and made it official by recently getting my 500hr Registered Yoga Teacher certificate as well as my Ayurveda Health Coach certificate. This is a path that I believe in, and am offering to share with anyone interested. I'm offering private Yoga classes (postures + philosophy), small group Yoga classes, and Ayurvedic workshops. These are simply tools to help support you in whatever it is you are trying to do. All of these sessions are meant to create space for stillness and inner contemplation. I will share the knowledge of these ancient and beautiful philosophies that ring true nearly 10,000 years after they were created. These are philosophies meant to support us in our everyday life. They are meant to bring us closer to a state of ease, as well as a state of well being and health.

Please look around my website and share with anyone who might be interested.

Finally, if you are looking for group yoga classes at a studio, I do teach at a wonderful studio in Naperville (Fridays at 6:00am for now, will switch to 7:15am in the new year) and would love to see you there. All profits from this studio go to the Grow Well Foundation which is a non-profit that provides accessible Mental Health so you can feel good about your Yoga and where your dollar is going. Link is here.

With Love,

Nina
